{"id":3442,"date":"2024-08-15T11:09:38","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T09:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/simplyourchild.com\/?p=3442"},"modified":"2025-03-16T15:28:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-16T14:28:30","slug":"5-tips-for-families-whod-like-to-relocate-in-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/simplyourchild.com\/en\/5-tips-for-families-whod-like-to-relocate-in-italy\/","title":{"rendered":"5 TIPS FOR FAMILIES WHO\u2019D LIKE TO RELOCATE IN ITALY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Italy is increasingly becoming a popular choice\u00a0 for international families, thanks to its great weather, rich history, beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Based on my years of conversations with\u00a0 international families in Italy, I\u2019m excited to share some tips to help you navigate life here smoothly and make the transition easier for all the families who&#8217;d like to relocate in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>5 tips for families who are planning to relocate to Italy<\/h3>\n<p>While advice can vary significantly between\u00a0 moving to a small town in southern Italy versus a city like Milan or Rome, these tips will be useful no matter where you choose to settle.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sFlh5c FyHeAf iPVvYb aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shutterstock.com\/shutterstock\/photos\/516646468\/display_1500\/stock-photo-excited-family-explore-new-home-on-moving-day-516646468.jpg\" alt=\"families who'd like to relocate in Italy\" width=\"603\" height=\"442\" aria-hidden=\"false\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Download WhatsApp\u00a0 &#8211; it\u2019s essential for staying connected in Italy. \u00a0 This app allows you to send free messages, create groups and join local communities. It\u2019s widely used for\u00a0 communicating with school parents, arranging meetings with friends, and joining mum groups to share local events and activities.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Enroll in an Italian course &#8211; Before relocating take a basic Italian course. While English is common In the big cities, it\u2019s less so in small villages, especially in southern Italy. Being prepared with at least basic Italian will help you navigate various situations. This advice applies to children too\u2014they may learn faster, but a head start in the language is always beneficial.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">As a language specialist, I would recommend\u00a0 having a plan to maintain\u00a0 your native language(s) after relocating to Italy. If you stay long term, it\u2019s important\u00a0 that your children continue speaking your mother tongue even as they become fluent\u00a0 in Italian. Remember, Italy is still largely a monolingual country.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">One of the biggest concerns for families is enrolling their children in school. If you plan to attend a local school, enrollment is\u00a0 only available in February for the following September, and you need to have residency in Italy. This can be a complex process, so I recommend contacting the local school in advance for all the necessary information. Italian children are quite energetic and parents usually don&#8217;t apologize for their behavior. While this is common, you don\u2019t have to accept it. Italians tend to overdress their kids.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Join Facebook Groups: Look for expat groups, local mums groups, and multilingual communities in your city to share experiences and seek advice. Build Your Network: Create a support\u00a0 network of local and international families.
